Stainless steel taps

Stainless steel taps and fittings are now becoming a very common choice to make the bathroom or kitchen state-of-the-art.

Let's clarify: what is stainless steel?

Stainless steel, or commonly called stainless steel, is a metal alloy composed mainly of iron, chromium and nickel: elements that give steel unique and distinctive properties.

Chromium, in particular, forms a protective layer on the surface that prevents rusting.

Its technical characteristics and modern design allow this type of faucet to be classified as a high-quality faucet.

Why choose steel taps

Steel taps are in fact qualitatively better than classic brass; they are undoubtedly more resistant to limescale and therefore easier to clean.

Moreover, the design and style of stainless steel taps are truly modern and elegant, as well as versatile and easy to match.

An extremely important functional advantage is also their resistance to rust and corrosion: their aesthetics and appearance will remain the same over time, guaranteeing a longer lifespan.  They are therefore perfect for everyday use in the bathroom and kitchen.

All these advantages make steel taps extremely easy to clean: a mild detergent and a soft cloth are sufficient to remove stains and marks with ease.

Stainless steel taps are certainly more expensive than brass or bronze. However, the advantages just described make them an excellent investment over time.

Satin-finished steel faucets

When it comes to stainless steel mixers, they are often offered with a satin finish. But what is this?

Satin stainless steel involves a surface treatment that makes the faucet softer to the touch and slightly more opaque.

It is achieved by polishing the surface, making it almost mirror-like, and then a ventilated wheel is used to create tiny irregular lines. It is these lines that give a more matt, but also more sophisticated appearance.

Satin-finished steel taps are widely used in wellness centres or for outdoor use, i.e. rooms where the humidity is high and areas where dirt in the air could affect the surface of the mixers and soon ruin them.

Be careful, however, not to confuse satin stainless steel with brushed stainless steel. Brushed steel is in fact obtained by scratching the surface with abrasive cloths that create regular lines. The next step is the smoothing of these lines with abrasive wheels that dull the surface. The brushed stainless steel fittings create a truly unique and recognisable play of light reflections.
